An inbounds avalanche above Glacier Bowl at Alyeska Resort late Monday prompted the temporary closure of upper mountain terrain, including the Tram and Glacier Bowl Express, resort officials said Tuesday. No injuries or missing persons were reported.

Alyeska’s Snow Safety and Ski Patrol teams are actively monitoring conditions and conducting avalanche mitigation efforts to ensure the safety of guests and employees. The resort emphasized that while robust safety measures significantly reduce avalanche risks, they cannot eliminate them entirely.
“As a precaution, the upper mountain terrain will remain closed until we’ve reasonably reduced the risk,” the resort stated in a morning update. Chair 7, Bear Cub Quad, and the beginner carpets are operating as scheduled, with Ted Express opening on a slight delay. All outer areas remain closed.
Guests are encouraged to enjoy the groomed lower mountain trails while waiting for upper mountain terrain to reopen. Mixed precipitation and light winds are expected throughout the day, with temperatures in the mid-30s.
This incident serves as a reminder of the inherent risks of skiing in avalanche-prone areas. Alyeska Resort has assured skiers that updates will be provided regularly via its website and social media channels.
For additional safety information, guests can contact Ski Patrol directly.
Conditions update
Alyeska Resort has received 13 inches of snow in the past 24 hours, bringing the season total to 449 inches, with snow depths reaching 156 inches at the top.
